 [copy of my tumblr post]

Conservative majority. I am literally in tears and completely inconsolable. I didn’t even care about the majority if my MP won and he lost to a douchebag littering the town with coalition fear mongering.

I actually had serious hopes of my MP being PM one day.

I’m going to need the following:
- a LOT of alcohol
- pretty graphics
- The Good Wife to fucking kill it tomorrow, ie give me some quality Alicia/Kalinda scenes and some quality Patti Nyholm and some quality Diane Lockhart. BRING IT SHOW, YOU ARE ALL I HAVE LEFT

So, so, so distraught. ACTUALLY CRYING.

Peter Worthington wrote an article in the Toronto Sun today about Lara Logan's sexual assault and how women need to be looking after their babies and not covering news/fighting in war zones. Link to the ONTD_P post. I would not recommend reading the post unless you have the ability to keep your misogyny/misandry rage in check. It actually makes me want to vomit. I hate the Toronto Sun and don't even know why my extremely liberal family has it delivered every day other than we like their entertainment/sports section.

On the other, much better hand: Spartacus: Gods of the Arena ripped my fucking heart out last night. That episode. Holy fuck.

[+] Watching the end of Season 1 of The West Wing to try to console my aching heart. You guys know nothing makes me hurt just a little bit less like Toby et al being klutzy and smart.

[+] Also helping me stay together? An epic picspam for [livejournal.com profile] picspammy. Since this month's challenge is FIFTY, it's going to be gigantic

[+] It's so warm here my kids were wearing shorts today. Wut?

[+] My Project 365 has obviously hit a mental block. Anyone have any suggestions to help me out of it like ideas or colours or fruits or images they want to see?

14 GOLD MEDALS. A new record for most gold medals won by any country ever at a single Olympic games beating the previous record of 13.

With glowing hearts

Look at these gorgeous specimens of Canadiana!

Now I'm off to lay in bed. I woke up feeling like the back of my head was going to blow off and I have to go to work in a few hours.

I've already cried at a Tim Horton's commercial. Who wants to bet how many times Canada makes me cry before the end of this Olympics?

Okay, it just started three seconds ago and I'm already bawling.

Any of my fellow Canucks watching Battle of the Blades? Tonight's the finale and I am pretty GLEEFUL.

To start off with it's a REAL LIFE The Cutting Edge and what do I love more than pretty boy hockey players and pretty girl skaters? Um. Nothing. Throw in George Strombolongname (TM Rainbow Sun Francks) and I'm in heaven there.

I'm totally throwing my hat behind Craig Simpson and Jamie Sale.

I kinda hope they do it again but reverse it and have male figure skaters and female hockey players. Not because I want to see Cassie Campbell or Manon Rhéaume in skimpy costumes or anything. Would never happen though because the girls are probably just too big to be thrown around but still.

Last year I bought my mom and movie and never gave it to her. A Bear Called Winnie about how Winnie (of Winnie the Pooh fame) came from belonging to a Canadian soldier to ending up at the London Zoo and inspiring A.A. Milne. It's got Stephen Fry, Michael Fassbender, Jonathon Young (Tesla from Sanctuary), Gil Bellows and Aaron Ashmore. Winnie was named after Winnipeg, the hometown of the company.

We're right at the end and it's been making me bawl the entire time. The man really loved Winnie and so many of the veterinary unit of the WWI military put their careers on the line for the bear. Seriously. I'm really crying hard.

There's a fairly thick booklet that came with it that talks about filming and how they had two bear cubs and just followed them around with the camera and let the bears interact with the cast however they wanted. Apparently the bear that played the adult Winnie, a bear named Bonkers, actually gave Michael Fassbender a genuine bear hug and made the entire crew cry.

Oh, AA Milne and Christopher Robin just walked away and tears are running down my face. I am such a sap.

I highly recommend this movie. All my Canadian peeps definitely need to watch it.

Every year I say I'm going to do NaNoWriMo and often times don't even start writing or even think about it. It has negative power; the power to make me not think about writing.

This year I'm going to try to do it and finish it.

I promised [livejournal.com profile] heartsways I would write her a trashy novel in the vein of Jilly Cooper's Rutshire Chronicles. Naturally this will also be set in England but less on society and more on an X Factor-esque tv show. I have to avoid local dialects though without serious help. British people have so many accents and phrases that I get confused. I can tell a Geordie from a Scouser now though!

To write "Canadian" all you have to do is make sure you use "grade three" into of "third grade", throw words like "double-double" and "tuque" all over the place and make sure everyone is really polite. Stereotypes to be sure but on Sunday I ate a poutine at Harvey's while wearing a wool & polar fleece hat made to look like a bear. It doesn't get more stereotypical than that.

Obligatory filter poll:
[Poll #1474038]

Also, I have my icons back. So I'm up to 124 icons. (See my pretty new Dannii icon?) I have a few empty spaces so if people come across any nice The Good Wife, Castle or FlashForward icons you think I might like, link me up.

I'm all out CRYING right now because TSN is airing Canada's top 10 Winter Olympics moments.

We just got to number 2 which is the women's hockey team absolutely kicking America's ass in Salt Lake City 2002 for the Gold.

I remember screaming and crying at that moment. Even though my baby Cassie Campbell is no longer on the team, I hope they can pull out a third gold in 2010.

And then the men won so we had double gold in hockey, which is the number one moment.

I keep my Lucky Loonie on my dresser so I can see it every day as a remembrance of these moments.

Oh God, I love Olympics. And I love Canada. SO much.

I fear for the UK when I am there in 2012 fangirling the fuck out of Team Canada. I will literally being wearing head to toe Canada gear every single day of the Olympics in London.

Whoa, it's been a long time since I posted one of these. I barely picked up my camera at all for the past two months but I've had it with me constantly for the past few days. So, I bring you an offering from my foray to Jungle Cat World in Orono.

"you'll be sorry!"

I've found myself desperate to find Trudeau with Colm Feore online but it doesn't seem to exist in torrents or in any of the LJ sites I usually frequent.

I guess this means I will be cosing up to Citizen of the World tonight at bedtime, though the book ends at 1968 and before all the exciting stuff like the FLQ crisis and the Charter of Rights and Freedoms so I'll have to get the second book.

And yes, I am a Canadian history nerd.

I didn't end up going out to see them but someone did a nice little display out in the park today. I set my tripod up on our deck and just set my camera's exposure to 20 seconds. I like being able to sit out on the deck and watch fireworks (and bats - I love watching bats fly).

Two more that are about five second exposures.

I went through the newspaper this morning and checked all the cancelled Canada Day events due to the labour strike. Now, I'm usually on the side of strikers but when they pick specifically disadvantageous times when garbage is going to be hot, wet and smelly or when it's going to ruin one of the single most important days of the year for the country, I most definitely get pissed off. I wasn't even this pissed off when a strike meant it took me three and a half hours to get to work and just as long to get home. (That would be the 2006 Toronto Transit Commission wildcat strike)

I usually hate the Toronto Sun because they're an utterly stupid rag that borders on hateful with their articles by Michael Coren, a truly dispicable "social conservative", but this here is a good article about how Canada Day should go on as planned, with a truce called between labour and management.

I think, for a country so often overshadowed by bigger, louder nations, like our neighbours to the south, it becomes even more important that citizens get a chance to celebrate Canada. Our flagship cities (Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver and Ottawa) should be leading the country in celebrations and I'm disappointed in Toronto.

That's it. Disappointed. After spending five months in another country, extolling the virtues of Canada and Toronto, I'm just disappointed, disgruntled and dismayed. Hopefully my local area is still having celebrations. (I really wanted to take pictures of fireworks exploding over the city on a long exposure)

I really love how this picture of Union Station came out. One of my favourite moments is walking out of Union Station and seeing the CN Tower. I don't know why, I just love that moment no matter how many times I do it. It's like how I get extremely happy every time I see a cat clean their ears with their paw.

I stole this from [livejournal.com profile] aivilo_18's journal but every Canadian needs to watch this.

If both of us weren't such huge homos I would be offering to have his children. Because YES. This is exactly how I feel about the Liberal-NDP-Bloc coalition and exactly how I feel about Stephen Harper. YES.

A maple leaf in the ice. That's pure Canadiana there for you, folks.

Aw, a girl wants to join the Degrassi football team. It's funny because she gets hazed or something.

We had multiple girls on our high school football team so it's kind of funny to see the show making it an issue.

I hope all my fellow Canadians exercised their rights and voted.

I certainly did! Yay!
