I actually finished a fanmix without working on it for months!

It's for my latest obsession, Sucker Punch. The art is quite hurried but oh well. Check it out here.

So how porny does your fic have to be for a porn battle? I really dislike writing porn, especially lesbian porn because the pronouns drive me nutsy.

I just want to end with a single kiss but I don't think that's porny enough. Why can't it be a "sexy battle"? Because it's sexy! I swear!

Oh, I saw The Lincoln Lawyer and really liked it. However I got nerdy when I saw Katherine Moennig and Michaela Conlin in the opening credits and kept waiting anxiously for them to appear.

It was definitely a good movie and it made me remember that I love it when Matthew McConaughey actually acts and doesn't just take his shirt off and smile at girls.

Yay, my first fanmix in the Skins fandom is finally done.

Lots of upbeat pop and dance tracks with a few that lean a little towards the dreamy. An instrumental intro track and three that I honestly could not understand the lyrics for but had the right sound.

I did some random Doctor Who fanarts. Essentially it's just for tumblr because I like looking at pretty pictures on my dash.

Now I really want a Dalek action figure so I can put it with the Jawas. All you need to do is throw Data in there and it would be all my nerdy sci-fi favourites together.

I'm having a seriously boring/restless day. It's been raining all day and even if it weren't it's shitty weather in the GTA so I can't even go out and take pictures. I've really been aching to hike over to a conservation area near where I live and take some pictures of the stream but the effect is somewhat muted by barren snowless landscape. :(

Also, some random kid didn't understand the Christian oppression pie chart and keeps trying to tell me that I'm both stupid and a troll by pointing out that Christianity covers many denominations. I'm getting tired now and it's not funny anymore so I've popped in The West Wing and am considering making myself a decaf tea. ...and, um, maybe taking pictures of it

I'm writing BSG fic again. I've figured out why I keep writing it though. I always felt like I couldn't write while it was on because I always wanted to wait to see if my questions were answered by the next episode. I'm a completist. And it's making me write cracky pairings like post-series Lee/Seelix humiliation fic for [livejournal.com profile] bsg_kink. What's up with my brain?

I've also realized that [livejournal.com profile] fandomsecrets made me a bit of a rabid fan of Dee and Tory just because the people make secrets like "Dee hurt my woobie Billy and I was glad when she died." But I love them for being beautiful and complicated. Plus they can be fleshed out in fic because as minor characters they didn't get the same amount of screentime as Starbuck or Laura.

Even though I skipped out on all my fic commitments last month I'm considering joining [livejournal.com profile] apocabigbang. I have an SG1 idea I've wanted to write for a while. I also have a [livejournal.com profile] bsgficexchange story I have to write. I wish I could write Fringe fic but right now I can't even fathom it.

I've been feeling off all day. Hardcore emotions + PMS = Crazy Go Nuts Ahkna.

Until I saw [livejournal.com profile] far_to_nowhere's Grey's Anatomy picspam. It's all the kisses of Grey's from Season 1 to the end of Season 5. It was just cute and made me smile.

Go check it out.

There's an angst battle that's beginning over at [livejournal.com profile] ga_angst_battle.

Go and leave prompts! The prompts are open until Thursday night.

Pretty please, do it for me? I love angst like nobody's business and I don't want to have to write my own prompts.

I wrotes some fic.

Supposedly for the [livejournal.com profile] bsg_pornbattle but I seem to be suffering from a hardcore inability to more than vaguely suggest at it. In the second one, the characters don't even touch.

Static (Jean Barolay/Erin Mathias), PG-13
Jean Barolay is tough. So is Erin Mathias.

Taking a Little Back (Gina/Kendra), R
Kendra visits Gina in her cell on Pegasus

I'm going to be writing some more stuff, hopefully a little more graphic (just slightly), over at the [livejournal.com profile] femslash_today porn battle as soon as it launches. So many fandoms I want to write, including Dollhouse, Fringe, DS9 and Law & Order: SVU.
ahkna: ([ds9] true love)

Some of the most fun I've had since coming back is fucking around with people at [livejournal.com profile] fandomsecrets. There are two secrets, entitled new fanbrat and entitled old timey fan. New fans are jumping all over the latter and getting all hostile and talking about how they've never had access to Star Trek before in their lives.

There's already new Trek versus old Trek wank and, naturally, the "nu" fans are being absolutely hilarious.

No one ever learns. It was the same with Watchmen and Batman and every show/comicbook that has gotten a commercially viable, high profile movie. Oh internets. You bring me joy.
ahkna: ([ga] callie is hot)
You know, I expected not to like tonight's episode because of Brooke but the entire thing was absolutely terrible.

Only Erica and George actually seemed in character and no story seemed to work. No one had any respect for humanity and they had to be "taught a lesson" that we've heard about 97 time previously on the show. This just isn't the show I fell in love with in 2005.

I'm just terribly disappointed. At least I won't have to download 30 Rock now.

Feel free to discuss in the comments.

Check this out: [livejournal.com profile] galpalficathon for friendship fics!

"Our goal is to celebrate non-sexual/non-romantic relationships between women. Gen, if you like. The characters may, of course, be involved in outside romantic or sexual relationships, whether canonical or not, but the focus of the fic should be on the non-romantic/-sexual relationship between the two (or more) female characters."

I think this is an AWESOME idea. We talk a lot about misogyny in fandom, especially in the sci-fi fandoms, and while the girlslash is one answer to this, it's not everyone's cup of tea. So, here's another solution! I can't wait for this to get off the ground and for the inevitable awesome.

Go check it out, guys. It's not prompt-leaving time quite yet but the more people hear about it, the better.

More thoughts:

- There is an Andy Warhol exhibit at the Art Gallery of Ontario that is guest-curated (I didn't even know such a thing existed) by David Cronenberg. This is either incredibly weird, incredibly awesome or weirdly awesome.

- The Cassandra Claire Plagiarism Debacle has started up again. And I still don't understand how everyone can be so morally outraged about plagiarism or not citing pop culture references IN FANFICTION. Dude, you're writing incestuous gay smut about underaged wizards and a variety of other illegal acts (because you can't even pretend that incest, bestiality, and rape are legal) and you're getting upset at Cassandra Claire? What?

- Is Brotherhood worth watching? I've watched most of the first episode before my family came in and interrupted but I want to know if the rest is any good.

- Since there are very few people at work and I have my own private office, I've been watching the Fellowship of the Ring Appendices and it just makes me love the movies so much. Most movies tend to focus on the actors, the producers and the director whereas this movie shows the guys that spent years making chain mail and other such things. Now I want to do fanart.

- And I think you should all decide whether or not I should skip work tomorrow. No real reason other than I don't really feel like spending four hours commuting and want to take advantage of my empty house.

Here's a little fanfic rant.

It totally turns me off a fic when there is S&M (or BDSM) with unlikely characters. Now, I actually LIKE these fics when done right and with appropriate characters but, guys, I need to be wooed. I need plot or angst or SOMETHING to explain the foray into the non-vanilla sex. 'Cause lets face it, most television characters are pretty vanilla because their goodness and how they deal with evil is usually what keeps us watching.

Amy Gardner from The West Wing, totally strikes me as loving power play sex and maybe even having a couple of kinks. (She totally loves tying people up and talking dirty). Can you see Donna talking dirty without blushing or being tied up without coaxing? Didn't think so.

I bet Daniel and Sam from SG1 would be about sweet or hot or passionate sex because they get hurt so often in their line of work, it's not something that would appeal to them sexually. Their earnest natures and unflagging innocence just wouldn't be the type to dive into sadomasochistic sex without good explanation.

Starbuck from Battlestar Galactica, on the other hand, is probably all about the dirty talk and and pain and domination. She also gets a lot of pain and hurt as a soldier on the front lines but unlike the other characters, she seemed to thrive on it. And later, when she was falling apart would probably have wanted her sexual partners to hurt her, just so she could feel. (Yeah, I expected Kat and Starbuck to have angry, brutal, hot sex in "Scar")

Bottom line: THERE NEEDS TO BE GOOD EXPLANATION. Nothing is more of a turn off than two characters going completely against their (usually moderately shown or hinted at) sexual natures without good reason.

For example. Wesley of Season 3 Buffy would have stuttered and fallen of the bed if confronted with Lilah in a school girl outfit. Yet because of the way his character was developed, it was completely in character for him to be having evil, hot and role-play-ey sex with Lilah.

So, I'm considering making a graphics journal. I've been posting a lot of wallpapers and a couple of icons and that's only going to become more frequent with [livejournal.com profile] wall_a_day. If I had a graphics journal I could get back to my roots of squealing over pretty girls and pretty shows with the occasional personal post thrown in. Except graphics journals are ridiculously common and maybe I wouldn't want the hassle of signing in and out of LJ.

I dunno, what do you guys think?

[Poll #694906]

And, just for my own record, I have specific requests I'm going to be working on:
  • SG1 OT3 (Moebius)
  • Angsty/Intimidating Jack O'Neill
  • MacGyver
  • "Apollo needs no towel" from Flight of the Phoenix
  • Gilmore Girls
  • SG1 in general
  • BSG in general
  • ahkna: (MISC Maggie Gyllenhaal)
I shall be posting my Art Battles when I'm done them but first here's a poll. I'm kind of stuck as to what I should do next so people need to request fanart like crazy. What OT3? Chenzel? Random weird movie? Request and though shall (probably) receive.

The Rules: First, write down the names of 12 characters. Then read and answer the questions. You can't look at the questions (or click on the cut) until you write down the 12 characters you're going to use.

    1. Sam Carter (SG1)
    2. Janet Fraiser (SG1)
    3. Elizabeth Weir (Atlantis)
    4. Tracey Kibre (TBJ)
    5. Carson Beckett (Atlantis)
    6. Daniel Jackson(SG1)
    7. CJ Cregg (West Wing)
    8. Donna Moss (West Wing)
    9. Tara Maclay (Buffy)
    10. Aeryn Sun (Farscape)
    11. Toby Ziegler (West Wing)
    12. Josh Lyman (West Wing)

true fandom-y weirdness behind the cut )

And I still can't believe that the line, "Hey baby, want to compare wormholes?" would work so well.

Why is there no Sam/Jack entry over at [livejournal.com profile] ship_manifesto?
    ahkna: (Default)
Yep, James Marsters and everyone's favourite gay hobbit, Elijah Wood, are going to be at the Ex this weekend. And I may go and hardcore geek it up. Maybe they'll have Stargate stuff.
